Portfolio case study

A quarterly tax estimator for people who work for themselves.

Quartli is shelved. This page is a record of the product for Lena Hanna’s portfolio. It does not calculate taxes or generate estimates.

Status

The public calculator and the other estimate tools are offline. Visiting this site does not run a tax calculation, save numbers, or start a review. The domain remains as a case study, not as a working service.

What it was

Quartli was a product of LNH Labs LLC for freelancers, 1099 contractors, and other self-employed earners. It estimated federal income tax and self-employment tax, turned that into a quarterly amount, and listed the regular IRS estimated-tax dates. The figures followed published IRS rules, including income-tax brackets, self-employment tax, the qualified business income deduction, and safe-harbor amounts.

People who signed in could keep a history of estimates. The product also tracked a tax reserve and included related planning tools: W-2 compared with 1099, S corporation, safe harbor, underpayment penalty, hourly rate, and itemized versus standard deduction. State guides described where a state estimated tax might also apply. A separate CPA review, prepared by Lena Hanna, CPA, covered a personalized state figure.

What shipped

  • Federal quarterly estimate Income, expenses, and filing status, expressed as a quarterly amount rather than a year-end surprise.
  • The tax picture around that number Self-employment tax, the qualified business income deduction, withholding, and safe harbor, shown with the estimate.
  • A payment calendar The regular federal estimated-tax dates, and a reserve to set aside between them.
  • Planning tools and state context Comparisons for common self-employed decisions, plus guides for state estimated tax. State liability itself was prepared by a CPA, not by a blended rate in the free tool.

Credit

Designed and built by Lena Hanna, CPA, for LNH Labs LLC. Quartli was for people whose taxes are not withheld from a paycheck. The product is shelved. This site is the portfolio record of that work.
